A cloud migration can be technically complete and still disappoint the business. Readiness begins with the operating change you expect people to feel.

Begin with the outcome

Before comparing platforms, write down why change is necessary now. The answer should describe an operating result: easier collaboration, more dependable access, support for new locations, simpler recovery, retirement of aging infrastructure, or clearer control of cost and ownership.

If the desired outcome is vague, the project will drift toward features. That makes scope harder to control and success harder to verify.

• Which work experience should improve?
• Which current limitation is no longer acceptable?
• What cannot be interrupted during migration?
• Who will decide when tradeoffs appear?

Expose the dependencies

Applications rarely move alone. Identity, file paths, integrations, network capacity, endpoint configuration, data retention, security controls, backup, and support procedures can all change with them.

Ask where the authoritative copy of data will live, how access will be granted and removed, what must integrate on day one, how rollback will work, and what evidence will show that recovery is possible. Then test the most business-critical assumptions before the broad rollout.

Plan for people and the day after

Adoption is not an email sent after launch. Identify which roles will work differently, what training they need, where questions will go, and how exceptions will be handled. Define who owns licensing, support, security changes, vendor escalation, and ongoing optimization once the project team disbands.
